When you need primer

Not every time, but often.

4 min read

Primer helps paint stick and cover evenly.

Usually prime when

  • Painting new drywall or bare wood
  • Covering stains, patches or water marks
  • Making a big color change, especially dark to light
  • Painting over glossy surfaces or oil-based paint

Paint and primer in one

These can work on clean, previously painted walls in similar colors. For stains or bare surfaces, use a separate primer.
